
Miloš Mijatović (Niš, 1982) is recognized as one of the most compelling clarinetists of his generation. He graduated from the “Dr Vojislav Vučković” Music High School in Niš under Professor Tomislav Nikolić, and continued his studies at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in the class of Professor Nikola Srdić. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the Faculty of Arts, University of Niš, under the mentorship of Professor Ante Grgin.
He refined his artistry through masterclasses with some of the world’s leading clarinetists and pedagogues, including Yehuda Gilad (University of Southern California, USA), Michael Collins (Royal Academy of Music, London), Mate Bekavac (Slovenia), Ernesto Molinari (Bern University of the Arts, Switzerland), Michel Arrignon (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, France), Robert Spring (Arizona State University, USA), Paul Meyer (France), and Karl Leister (Germany).
Mijatović is a laureate of several international competitions, winning first prizes in Barletta (Italy) in 2005 and 2006, the second prize at the Young Musicians International Competition in Padova (Italy) in 2007, and a special award at the International Chamber Music Competition in Subotica (Serbia). For his artistic achievements, he received the “Exceptional Award” from the University of Novi Sad and the Ministry of Culture, and in 2011 he was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Government of Sweden.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, the Novi Sad Chamber Orchestra, the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, and numerous ensembles across Italy, England, Germany, France, Sweden, and Serbia. He has appeared at major festivals such as NOMUS, the International Tribune of Composers, the Trollhättan Music Festival (Sweden), the British Isles Music Festival (UK), and IMPULS – International Ensemble and Composer Academy for Contemporary Music (Austria).
Between 2001 and 2006, Mijatović served as principal clarinetist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, performing in renowned concert halls under the baton of distinguished conductors including Kent Nagano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Valery Gergiev, Claudio Vandelli, Mladen Jagušt, and Berislav Skenderović. Since 2005, he has been the principal clarinetist of the Southeastern Chamber Orchestra. He has recorded for national and international radio and television stations (RTS, RTV, ART TV).
Since 2013, he has been a member of the No Borders Orchestra, performing throughout Europe. He is the founder of the clarinet octet EBONY, composed of students from his class. As principal clarinetist of the Niš Opera, he played a key role in revitalizing the opera scene after a 50‑year hiatus, performing in numerous productions. He is also a member of the contemporary music ensemble Studio 6, with whom he premiered Songs of Wars I Have Seen (2007) by Heiner Goebbels, based on texts by Gertrude Stein. He currently serves as principal clarinetist of the Niš Symphony Orchestra.
In 2019, Mijatović participated as principal clarinetist on the international China tour of the Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra (Austria), performing in honor of Ludwig van Beethoven. The tour included concerts in some of China’s most prestigious concert halls across Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Taizhou, Heyuan, Zhongshan, Wenzhou, and other cities.
He is actively engaged as a masterclass instructor, teaching regularly in Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria. Since 2018, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Serbian Clarinet Academy.
Miloš Mijatović is a regular member of the International Clarinet Association (USA) and the European Clarinet Association. Since 2007, he has worked as assistant to Professor Ante Grgin, and in 2022 he was appointed Full Professor of Clarinet at the Faculty of Arts, University of Niš.
He is a Royal Global, Silverstein Works, and D’Addario Artist, performing on the Royal Global Soloist clarinet, the Silverstein Titanium ligature, and D’Addario Evolution reeds.
