After 50 years, and thorough preparations, the premiere performance of the operetta Die Fledermaus, of the refurbished Niš opera occurred on May 22nd 2013 at the National Theatre in Niš. Setting the first opera performance in Niš, after a few decades pause, involved primarily relying on home artists. At the theatrical and musical spectacle of the year, which involved almost 300 performers, all of them, except the conductor Dejan Savić, were practically from Niš. The opera engaged not only the National Theatre in Niš but the Faculty of Arts in Niš, too, as the holder of this major project, then, the choir and the orchestra of the Faculty, as well as the Symphony Orchestra and the Students, Cultural Center. This popular operetta by Johann Strauss, was directed by Ivan Vuković, the director of the National Theatre, conducted by Milena Injac (while the premiere was conducted by Dejan Savić) and the whole piece was performed in Serbian language.
